Damani Adadevoh

Damani Adadevoh is a versatile 3D tech artist whose specialty is 3D scanning. In his creative process, Damani seeks to explore the limits of 3D modeling and CAD (computer aided design). As a CG artist and designer, he aims to explore what happens when you combine digital tools like 3D modeling, mocap, vfx, and digital fabrication (3D printing) - as well as more traditional and industrial processes like animation, stop-motion, forging, casting and metallurgy. Currently, he works full time as a 3D scanning specialist for iMakr studio in Brooklyn, NY. He commutes from Jersey City where he lives with his cat Hoagie.

Damani’s passion for 3D is what has really lead him to become so experienced in the field and in all of these different modes and technologies. One of the things I found makes Damani such an expert is that he pays special attention to the detail that goes into his scans. This includes the setting in which he works - including lighting, photography angles, and post-processing. He never misses a beat and this is really what makes his work stand out. Here are some examples from his Instagram page, @falsedeities, where you can explore his many projects and 3D creations:

He was even commissioned by the New York Times to create a 3D piece for an article commenting on facial recognition software and its potentially problematic use by police. For this project, Damani created a 3D scan of his own face, seen below. You can also check out the article here: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/11/technology/facial-recognition-software-police.html

Damani has also had the chance to work with various high profile celebrities on 3D scanning projects, including Bella Hadid and ASAP Ferg:

As you can tell, Damani really is a seasoned pro when it comes to creating in the 3D realm.  He explained to me that his preferred title is β€œ3D Tech Artist”, as he regularly experiments with different types of 3D technology. He has a strong passion for digitizing the real world, both through his work and his personal projects. He is an expert in many different types of 3D scanning, editing, and presenting that can be done with different technologies. We are honored that he enjoys Trnio, because in our eyes, this means that we are doing something right. He is a fan of Trnio because, as much time as he spends in the studio, often times he likes to scan something cool he sees on the go. Trnio is perfect for him because, in this context, he doesn’t need heavy or expensive machinery - he only needs his iPhone. Thanks so much to Damani for sharing his creative process with us and make sure to check him out on Instagram!
